In this week's Drop:

📰 Digest

🎖️ Hometown Heroes Banner Program, Phase 2, is open. After Phase 1 hung 63 banners around town, Dedham Stars & Stripes and the Veterans Services Office are accepting applications for current or former Dedham residents who served honorably in any branch. Banners are $150 (covers production, photo restoration, hardware, install, and removal). Apply online at dedhamma.gov/hometownheroes or pick up a paper application at the Veterans Services Office, Council on Aging, VFW Post 2017, or American Legion Post 18. Deadline: August 5. New banners go up in September.

⚠️ Charles River advisory — no swimming, boating, or fishing. DPH is recommending a precautionary cyanobacteria (cyanoHAB) advisory for the Charles between Kendrick/Nahanton St. (Needham/Newton) and Bridge/Spring St. (Dedham/West Roxbury). Signage is going up at all access points, including Millennium Park and Cutler State Park. Avoid all water contact, keep pets away, and rinse off immediately if contact happens. As a result, the Dedham Greenspace Coalition has postponed Saturday's Dedham Community Paddle — a new date will be announced once the advisory lifts.

🏛️ Public comment window open on Campus at 128. MEPA is accepting written comments on the proposed development through August 4. (email [email protected]) Site visit details.

🎬 Dedham's most famous court case is headed to the screen — sort of. Matt Damon confirmed his and Ben Affleck's production company is developing a movie based on a trial that filled the Norfolk County courthouse gallery for weeks. Still "very early days," but if you followed the case, you'll want to keep an eye on this one. More here.

👕 Avery Closet is collecting. Avery Elementary's PTO is accepting new/gently used kids' clothing, shoes, and sports gear (no helmets) at bins by the cafeteria door and front entrance now through August 3. The free shopping event is Saturday, August 29, 12–4PM, by the Avery Red Playground.

🌕 Full Buck Moon — Wednesday, 7/29. July's full moon peaks midmorning, but it'll look plenty full Tuesday and Wednesday night too. Named for the new antlers emerging on deer bucks this time of year.

🚧 East Street roadwork continues. Daytime striping, painting, and sign work is ongoing through the month — possible shoulder closures, but no detours expected.

🏛️ Limited gallery viewing at the Dedham Museum. The main gallery is open Tuesdays–Fridays, 11AM–2PM, for a look at the new Dedham in the Revolution exhibit while renovations continue. The back gallery stays closed for now

🎨 Design the Food Pantry's next logo. The Dedham Food Pantry is inviting the whole community — pros, students, hobbyists, anyone with a Dedham connection — to submit original logo designs for its first-ever public contest. Up to 3 entries per person; the winner gets a $150 local gift card, a framed copy of the logo, and an invite to the unveiling after Labor Day. Submissions close August 14. Full contest rules here.

📚 Free summer meals for kids continue through August 21 at Avery, Dedham Middle, Dedham High, and Paul Park — no registration required.
