Hello, Dedham.

You’ve almost made it to vacation week (for all those who celebrate.) If you’re sticking around town, there’s plenty to do. These warm days have been nice, but this is New England. Check the forecast before you head out the next few days.

In this week's Drop:

  • The election results are in.

  • School vacation week ideas, all week long.

  • Your favorite 10k with actors reading Joyce.

There’s a new moon 4/17, followed by no moon in the sky for a few days, keep reading for more reasons to look up this month.

As always, happy you’re here.

📰 Digest

🦊 There are fox kits in someone's Dedham backyard. Could be yours next. Here's what Animal Control says to do.

📺 Boston 25 just donated something big to DHS. The student news program is about to get a serious upgrade.

🗳️ The votes are in. Dedham's Annual Town Election wrapped up Saturday, April 11. Here's a quick rundown of the major offices:

  • Select Board: Michelle Persson Reilly and Stephen R. Acosta.

  • Moderator: Elizabeth O'Donnell.

  • School Committee: Leah Flynn Gallant and Rick Michalka.

  • Board of Health: Jessica Katherine Paulus.

  • Planning Board: James E. O'Brien.

  • Board of Library Trustees: Danielle M. Atkins and Rita Frances Chapdelaine.

  • Parks & Recreation Commission: Ryan Michael O'Toole and Rafael E. Martinez.

  • Housing Authority: John G. Wagner.

  • For more details, see the official results.

🏈 DHS Football update. After months of conversations with students and families, DHS Principal Jim Forrest and Athletic Director Steve Traister announced that DHS will enter a two-year co-op program with Sharon High School for the 2026 and 2027 fall football seasons. The roster wasn't large enough to safely field a varsity team on its own — a trend affecting communities across the state (33 MIAA-approved co-ops statewide this year). In Fall 2026, the team plays under Sharon's banner; in Fall 2027, they return under Dedham's. A junior varsity co-op is also being explored. A head coach search is underway.

🌠 Look up this week. April's sky is putting on a show during vacation week:

  • Sat 4/18–Mon 4/20 — Mercury, Mars, and Saturn cluster together just above the eastern horizon in the hour before sunrise. Early Patriots' Day risers might catch it.

  • Tue 4/21–Wed 4/22 — The Lyrid meteor shower peaks with up to 20 meteors per hour. Start looking east around 10PM on 4/21 and into the predawn hours of 4/22.

  • All month — Venus is blazing bright in the western sky 30–60 minutes after sunset. Hard to miss.
